Want to write for us? We welcome submissions from writers of all backgrounds and at any point in their careers! We judge pieces solely on the merit of the story, not the social media following of the person who wrote it or how many other outlets they’ve been published in.
If you’d like to have your work published in Blinter Magazine, email us your story idea or finished article (we will edit it to suit our style guide) at blintermagazineteam@gmail.com and we will review it. If we find that it suits the needs of our publication, we will get back to you shortly so we can discuss a due date and anything that needs clarification. We will send you the final article before it goes live.
Here are some things you should keep in mind when pitching to us:
1. We publish travel, art and culture, food, and climate stories, as well as interviews.
2. Stories tend to be related to nature in some way (for example, most of our travel pieces are about eco-tourism), however, we report on anything that we think will inspire people to see the world and care about the state of it, so articles that make people feel wonderstruck is our jam. Think National Geographic meets Vogue. For more information on what kind of material we publish, please visit our About page.
3. In honor of our northern roots, we tend to report on all things Scandi, Celtic, and PNW. However, we aim to explore the planet, so we do venture outside of that if the story is right (for example, an article about why everyone should watch the sun come up over the Himalayas or an incredible eco-resort in Brazil).
4. We pride ourselves in being a magazine with heart, so if you’re unsure if your article is right for us, ask yourself, “Does this piece make people feel something?” If so, send us your idea or finished article and we will let you know if it’s right for us.
5. If you have an interview in mind, let us know who you want to interview and we will collaboratively come up with questions.
6. We prefer that you submit finished articles rather than ideas for stories.
7. We do not have a word count. Tell your story in the way that makes the most sense to you as the writer.
8. Imagery is not a requirement for article submissions, however, should you send some in, they should be high quality and suit the visual identity of Blinter Magazine. For more details on this, feel free to reach out to us via email.
9. If you are a photographer wanting your visual work published by us, shoot us an email and we can discuss what we’re looking for. Some things we are always accepting are high-quality photographs of regions in the Pacific Northwest, the Celtic Isles, and anywhere above the Arctic Circle. We tend to stick to vibrant and contrasted imagery that aligns with our visual identity and color scheme (shades of blue, green, orange, gray, and brown with pops of red – when in doubt, we always say that the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” from 2013 is a great mood board of sorts for us), but black-and-white work is also accepted. You will be given credit for your work in the caption of the photograph and on any social media posts that use your imagery.
Articles published by Blinter Magazine may not be reproduced for other publications. We do not pay for contributed articles or photography. Blinter Magazine may publish and circulate accepted articles and imagery on social media. We reserve the right to take down stories at any time should we find that the author goes against our ethics code (for example, is found guilty of assault or exhibits homophobic behavior). We also reserve the right to turn down stories that were pitched to us as ideas and initially accepted should they be written poorly or not suit our needs (for example, we accept a writer’s idea to do a story on biophilic architecture but when they submit the final piece for editing, it’s filled with factual errors). These decisions will ultimately be made by the editor-in-chief, who will contact the writer upon the deletion of their article.
